Writer Statement - Louise Monaghan
Flying to Mexico to meet our son’s future in-laws for the first time, I knew the differences in our cultures might well present some challenges. Their English isn’t fluent and with our Spanish limited to ordering ice cream and asking where the toilet is, communication was going to be difficult. But when, enroute to Acapulco – and aware of our concerns – Jacobo turned the car stereo up full blast and Highway to Hell belted out, I just knew we were bound to become friends. Sarah is fiercely ambitious. Work is everything to her so when, on her way to a vitally important meeting, her path is blocked by two refuse guys, she’s determined to get past them. Whatever it takes. Ultimately, it’s music that diffuses the situation and our film celebrates how art can break down barriers and unite us
